District 2 has an outstanding combination of sports events on today’s schedule, if weather allows.

That schedule could ultimately include postponements, games conducted in brisk conditions or some combination of the two.

Highlighting the schedule are two games between the last two unbeatens in the Wyoming Valley Conference in their sports.

Wyoming Area is at Crestwood in girls lacrosse and Holy Redeemer is at Delaware Valley in boys volleyball.

The Wyoming Area-Crestwood game matches the top two teams from NEPASportsNation.com’s Wednesday release of the first Riverfront Sports Girls Lacrosse Power Rankings. Crestwood is ranked first and Wyoming Area second. The teams are also 1-2 in both sets of standings. Crestwood (7-0) leads Wyoming Area (5-0) in the WVC. Wyoming Area (6-0) leads Crestwood (7-2) in the power ratings race for the top seed in the District 2 Class 2A Tournament.

Holy Redeemer has the best boys volleyball record in the WVC (6-0) and overall (7-0). Delaware Valley is in second place at 4-0.

The two matchups of unbeatens are among four games between first- and second-place teams.

The other two are in baseball.

Holy Redeemer (4-0 in the division, 7-0 overall) is at Lake-Lehman (4-1, 6-1) in WVC Division 2. Abington Heights (2-0, 3-1) is at Valley View (3-1, 5-3) in Lackawanna League Division 1.

The schedule also includes:

WVC Division 1 softball: Pittston Area (4-0, 4-1) at Hazleton Area (5-1, 7-2).

Lackawanna boys volleyball: Western Wayne (4-2, 7-3) at Abington Heights (5-0, 5-0).

Lackawanna Division 1-2 softball: Abington Heights (3-0, 7-0) at Valley View (2-2, 5-2).

Lackawanna Division 1-2 softball: West Scranton (3-0, 3-0) at Honesdale (1-1, 3-1).
