High school sports get underway on Pennsylvania golf courses today, including in the Wyoming Valley Conference where there are three season-opening boys matches.
Dallas, the last boys golf team standing at the end of 2021, is in the first sports event of the academic year within District 2.
The Mountaineers, who finished sixth in the state in Class 3A at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships, will be tested right away in a meeting between teams in the opening Riverfront Sports Super Six Golf Power Rankings of district teams.
The match that sends No. 2 Crestwood to No. 4 Dallas is also a battle between new division rivals and likely contenders in the WVC Class 3A Division.
In the past, the WVC had split its Class 3A teams into two divisions. Crestwood was second in Division 2 last season while Dallas was winning Division 1.
This season, all eight Class 3A teams are grouped together, playing each other twice for a 14-match schedule.
WVC officials originally drew up a seven-match schedule today, but some schools made adjustments to that schedule, leaving just three, all of them in the Class 3A Division.
Hazleton Area is at Pittston Area at Fox Hill Country Club at 3 in another match between teams that ended last season ranked among the best in the district. Hazleton Area won the Division 2 title.
Wyoming Area, new to Class 3A after an enrollment increase, is at Wyoming Valley West at Irem Temple at 4 p.m.
