The Wyoming Valley Conference’s last two unbeatens – and quite possibly the top two Class A teams in the state – meet for the Division 1 field hockey lead when Wyoming Area visits Wyoming Seminary Wednesday night at 7 at Klassner Field.
Wyoming Seminary is the three-time defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state champion.
Wyoming Area reached the 2019 state semifinals, but was unable to play in the state tournament in 2020 when it was reduced to district champions because of the pandemic. The Lady Warriors lost only to Wyoming Seminary, giving the Blue Knights their two closest games in a perfect season, both 1-0 in overtime.
Wyoming Seminary is 3-0 and first in the Golden Dome Abstract Super Six Field Hockey Rankings of District 2 teams. Wyoming Seminary is 2-0 in the division, 5-0 overall and second in the Super Six.
Two more ranked teams play when third-ranked Crestwood (1-2, 5-2) goes to fourth-ranked Lackawanna Trail (1-1, 2-1) in the afternoon in another WVC Division 1 game.
The Wednesday schedule in District 2 features 42 events across 8 sports.
No title is at stake – that was already won by Scranton Prep – but the top two Big School teams in the Scranton Golf Center Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams will go head-to-head in the regular-season finale before probably meeting again in the postseason.
Abington Heights won the first match, but this time is playing at North Pocono, which has a chance to finish tied for second in the final Lackawanna League Division 1 standings.
Top-ranked Abington Heights is 7-2 and 10-2 while second-ranked North Pocono is 6-3 and 8-3.
The Dallas and Crestwood boys and girls cross country teams will square off during a WVC cluster meet hosted by Wyoming Seminary.
All four teams are 2-0.
Crestwood is the top-ranked girls team in the Century Dental Associates Power Rankings of District 2 teams. The Crestwood boys are fourth, Dallas girls sixth and Dallas boys 10th.
In boys soccer, Lake-Lehman is at Wyoming Area in a key WVC Division 2 game.
Lake-Lehman, the No. 4 Small School in the Riverfront United Super Six Soccer Power Rankings of District 2 teams, is 3-1 and tied for second in the division. The Black Knights are 4-4 overall.
Top-ranked Wyoming Area (4-0, 7-0) leads the division.
In another boys soccer game, Dunmore (4-0, 4-1) is at Mountain View (2-1, 3-1) in Lackawanna Division 2.
There are also girls soccer games, girls tennis matches and girls volleyball matches on the schedule.
