Top teams meet to end league play

Blue Ridge is the only team to win a set off unbeaten Abington Heights this season.

Abington Heights is responsible for Blue Ridge’s only loss.

Those teams remain in the top two spots in the latest Riverfront Sports Super Six Boys Volleyball Power Rankings of District 2 teams going into their regular-season finale to decide first place in the Lackawanna League.

The latest rankings were released Thursday afternoon, hours before the No. 1 Comets host the No. 2 Raiders in Clarks Summit.

An Abington Heights win would give the Comets the outright Lackawanna League title.

Blue Ridge can force a tie for first place and a playoff for the title with a victory.

The third and fourth positions in the rankings also remained the same, but there is a shuffle in the fifth and sixth spots.

Tunkhannock secured the Wyoming Valley Conference title and held on to third, followed by Holy Redeemer.

Delaware Valley moved into the rankings in fifth by sweeping Dallas, which had been in that spot, and knocking the Mountaineers out of the rankings.

The Warriors reached the rankings by sweeping three straight three-set matches. In its last seven WVC matches, Delaware Valley is 6-1 with six sweeps and a five-set loss to second-place Holy Redeemer.

Berwick extended its winning streak to five matches and held on to sixth.
