Valley View was quick to move past visiting Scranton in a non-league football game between Lackawanna Football Conference teams.
The entire second half was played under the Mercy Rule after the Cougars scored 35 first-half points on the way to a 48-0 rout at John Henzes/Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Valley View, the top-ranked Big School in the Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Power Rankings of LFC and Wyoming Valley Conference teams on NEPAFootball.com, improved to 4-0. Scranton dropped to 1-3.
The Cougars used their starting offense for just 19 offensive plays and got 28 points. The other touchdown needed to invoke the Mercy Rule at halftime came on Colin Skeen’s 68-yard punt return.
Valley View was efficient offensively in the first half with Connor Hilling and Adam Howanitz each accounting for two touchdowns.
Hilling carried 6 times for 51 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Howanitz also ran 6 times, producing 92 yards and a touchdown while going 3-for-5 passing for 47 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown pass to Zack Rudalavage.
Camryn Higgins and Geno Barone ran for second-half touchdowns for the Cougars, who have outscored opponents, 162-34.
