Valley View claims top spot

Valley View used a victory over the No. 2 team while the former No. 1 was losing to ascend to the top of the Big School portion of the Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Power Rankings.

The rankings, compiled weekly by NEPAFootball.com, are for teams in the Lackawanna Football Conference and Wyoming Valley Conference.

While Valley View was jumping from third to first, Wallenpaupack also moved up and Dallas moved into the rankings.

Wallenpaupack went from fifth to third by shutting out West Scranton, 49-0.

Dallas outlasted Wyoming Valley West, 28-27, in overtime, to both move into the rankings and jump over the sixth-ranked Spartans into fifth.

Wallenpaupack’s win sets up a scenario where two teams ranked among the top three face each other for the second straight week.

Friday night, as the No. 3 team at the time, Valley View defeated No. 2 Delaware Valley, 35-14.

Next up is No. 1 Small School Scranton Prep going to Wallenpaupack to face the Big School third-ranked Buckhorns in the only game on the Week Three schedule to feature two ranked teams.

Williamsport lost its hold on the No. 1 spot in Big Schools with a 31-24 loss to Altoona.

Crestwood fell from fourth to out of the Big School rankings.
