Luke Janiszewski carried 20 times for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns and Western Wayne also got big contributions from Thomas Chernasky and Jaiden Derosa while running over visiting Honesdale, 42-0, win the 29th annual Wayne-Pike Shrine Bowl.
Western Wayne ran out to leads of 28-0 after one quarter and 35-0 at halftime while evening its record at 3-3. Honesdale dropped to 2-4.
Janiszewski ran for the first two touchdowns, covering 15 yards and 1 yard.
The Wildcats scored three touchdowns in 3:15 late in the first quarter for the 28-0 lead.
Chernasky followed up Janiszewski’s second touchdown with a 34-yard interception return and Derosa caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Frankie Leyshon.
Western Wayne was unable to execute a field goal attempt midway through the second quarter, but still added to its lead before halftime.
Chernasky scored his second touchdown on Leyshon’s second TD pass, a 15-yarder.
The entire second half was played under the Mercy Rule.
Janiszewski added a 15-yard touchdown run with 2:22 left in the third quarter to close the scoring.
Chernasky led the defense with the interception for a touchdown, a fumble recovery, a sack, two other tackles for losses and another pass rush. He finished with six tackles and two assists total.
Derosa was the team’s top receiver with 2 catches for 39 yards and second-leading rusher with 3 carries for 52 yards.
The Wildcats ran for 268 yards on 37 carries.
