Crestwood downs Valley West

Crestwood’s Chase Pugh

Chase Pugh carried 29 times for 129 yards and had short touchdown runs in each of the first 3 quarters Friday night as Crestwood downed visiting Wyoming Valley West in a non-league game between Wyoming Valley Conference teams.

The result left both teams at 3-7 and heading on the road in the playoffs against top-seeded opponents.

Pugh scored from the 1 in the first quarter and the 5 in the second quarter for a 14-0 halftime lead.

Brendan Dennis ran 49 yards for one touchdown and Pugh 4 for another to make it 28-0 going into the fourth quarter.

Dennis finished with 81 yards on 3 carries.

Ethan Shudak returned a fumble 52 yards for another Crestwood touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

The Spartans broke the shutout on the game’s final play, a 1-yard run by Daniel Stavish.

Crestwood held bruising Wyoming Valley West tailback Isaiah Cobb to 59 yards on 19 carries.

Cobb was also busy on defense with 3 tackles and 11 assists.

Lincoln Bibla and Magnus Bibla each made four tackles for losses to lead the Crestwood defense.

Cole Kakalecik from Crestwood and Jake Dukaskas from Wyoming Valley West joined the Biblas and Cobb in being in on at least 10 tackles.

Crestwood will play at Valley View in the District 2 Class 4A quarterfinals. Wyoming Valley West is at East Stroudsburg South in the District 2-11 Class 5A Subregional semifinals.
