Reales, Santiago lead ‘Paupack

Jeysson Reales and Jordan Santiago led the way Friday night as host Wallenpaupack shut out rival Western Wayne, 24-0, in a non-league game between Lackawanna Football Conference teams.

Both teams closed the regular season at 4-6, leading to road games in the first round of the district playoffs.

Wallenpaupack overcame several obstacles to produce the victory with the help of big plays on both sides of the ball.

The Buckhorns had 100 yards in penalties, managed just 6 first downs and had the ball for 18 fewer plays than the Wildcats.

Wallenpaupack’s defense, however, held Western Wayne to just 2.4 yards per carry and got a pair of interceptions from Santiago.

Reales had six tackles, including two sacks, and six assists. Chris Quigley also had two tackles for losses.

T.J. Schmalzle and Xaiden Schock were each in on nine tackles.

Schmalzle also was the only Buckhorn to catch a pass, pulling in 4 for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Mabret Levant threw the passes to Schmalzle and also broke a 59-yard touchdown run.

Shadrak Agyei carried 18 times for 111 yards and the other touchdown.

The Buckhorns led 14-0 at halftime before adding Roman Levant’s 45-yard field goal and Mabret Levant’s touchdown run.

Nate Swingle led Western Wayne’s defense with eight tackles, including a sack, and two assists.

Wallenpaupack heads to Berwick Friday for the District 2 Class 4A quarterfinals. Western Wayne is at Mid Valley in a Class 3A semifinal.
