SATURDAY ROUNDUP: Streak ends for Sem field hockey team

Episcopal Academy ended Wyoming Seminary’s 33-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory at Klassner Field Saturday in a non-league matchup of nationally ranked field hockey teams.

According to maxfieldhockey.com’s rankings, Episcopal Academy was fifth and Wyoming Seminary ninth nationally going into the game.

Wyoming Seminary, the three-time defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A state champion, also had a 51-game winning and 65-game unbeaten streak against in-state competition come to an end.

The game-winning goal came in the fourth quarter.

In other non-league games: Crestwood shut out Wallenpaupack, 5-0; Hazleton Area edged Easton, 3-2; and Wyoming Valley West got past Bloomsburg, 2-1.

GIRLS SOCCER

The Big Schools beat the Small Schools in non-league games between teams in the Riverfront United Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

Dallas shut out Western Wayne, 5-0, and Wyoming Valley West downed Wyoming Area, 3-1.

Liv Maniskas scored twice to lead Dallas.

Megan MacNeely, Kira Pomrinke and Gina Pugliese had the other goals.

Veronica Warunek scored two goals, twice giving Wyoming Valley West a two-goal lead, 2-0 just 7:37 into the game and 3-1 early in the second half.

Lauren Richie also scored. Gwendolyn Langley had an assist.

Halle Kranson scored for Wyoming Area on an assist from Ella Shepulski.

Makckenzie Bowling had six saves in the win.

Ava Sherman scored twice to lead Valley View past Scranton Prep, 3-1, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 game.

The other five non-league games were all one-goal decisions: Berwick over Wallenpaupack, 5-4; Forest City over Mid Valley, 3-2; Mountain View over Honesdale, 2-1; Crestwood over Bloomsburg, 2-1; and Mount Carmel over Hazleton Area, 3-2.

Kayla Fernandez scored twice for Berwick.

BOYS SOCCER

Will Pickarski and Zach Evans had hat tricks as North Pocono routed visiting Lakeland in a non-league game.

Pickarski’s three goals helped the Trojans to a 9-0 lead at halftime.

Corbin Lankford scored twice.

Alex Pagotto opened the scoring, then Jonah Yurkanin assisted Lankford and scored a goal himself to make it 3-0 in just 8:54.

The other four non-league games were shutouts: Blue Ridge over Nanticoke, 4-0; Tunkhannock over Mountain View, 4-0; Selinsgrove over Hazleton Area, 7-0; and MMI Prep over Weatherly, 6-0.

Dylan Mateus scored twice for Tunkhannock.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Weatherly downed MMI Prep, three sets to one in a non-league match.
