Wyoming Area moved above .500 by winning its third straight Wyoming Valley Conference girls tennis match, defeating Hanover Area, 4-1.

The Lady Warriors won all but first singles while stopping Hanover Area’s three-match winning streak and keeping the Lady Hawkeyes from moving past the .500 level.

Jocelyn Williams pulled out a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Stephanie Lewis at second singles.

The rest of the Wyoming Area wins were in straight sets with a doubles sweep by Ella Rau-Morgan Slusser and Jillian Graham-Erica Gilligan and a 6-2, 6-0 win from Ava Vacula at third singles.

Karlee Yasavage provided Hanover Area’s point by winning 6-2, 6-2 at first singles.

Piper Mensinger won, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles as Berwick defeated Pittston Area, 5-0, in the only other WVC match.

Montrose became the first team to take a point off Abington Heights after six straight 5-0 victories by the unbeaten Comets to begin the Lackawanna League season.

Abington Heights swept doubles and got 6-0, 6-0 wins at the top two singles spots from Bella Peters and Rina Hanumali in the 4-1 victory.

Hayley Packer won third singles for Montrose.

In other Lackawanna League matches: North Pocono shut out Dunmore, 5-0; Riverside defeated Holy Cross, 4-1; Scranton edged Honesdale, 3-2; Valley View shut out Mid Valley, 5-0; and Scranton Prep blanked Wallenpaupack, 5-0.

Warwick Valley, N.Y. defeated Delaware Valley, 5-0, in a non-league match.


Hailey Kline had a hat trick in the first half has Lake-Lehman routed Hanover Area, 10-0, in a WVC Division 2 game.

Also in WVC Division 2, Wyoming Seminary shut out Tunkhannock, 3-0.


Morgan Hilbert had three goals and an assist as Pittston Area shut out Hanover Area, 8-0, in a WVC Division 2 game.

Bella Giardina added two goals and an assist.

Tunkhannock routed Berwick, 12-0, in the other WVC Division 2 game.
