WVC conducts basketball all-star doubleheader

By Tom Robinson, NEPA Sports Nation

Senior all-stars games across all sports have been just one of the elements lost from high school sports during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wyoming Valley Conference coaches, with assistance from volunteer Shawn Walker, brought all-star games back with Friday’s basketball doubleheader at GAR High School.

Walker stepped forward to assist in organization after the Moses Senior All-Star Games for WVC basketball players were canceled for the second straight year.

Crestwood and Wilkes-Barre Area were prominent in both games with the boys and girls coaches and multiple players from each school involved.

Not all players originally selected for the Moses Games were available because of late changes, spring sports commitments and other issues, but two competitive games still resulted, including the boys game being decided in the final 10 seconds.

Katie Starr from Berwick was the night’s top performer – after hitting a home run in her afternoon softball game.

Paul Feisel from Crestwood made the late game-winning shot in the boys game.

Mason Mendygral from Wyoming Valley West joined Starr as the night’s Most Valuable Players.

Crestwood’s Ryan Petrosky also had a strong game, along with being a big part of the comeback.
