The collection of returning all-stars in Lackawanna League Division 3 boys basketball each maintained or improved his individual status this season while helping their teams create a spirited title race.
Mid Valley’s Danny Nemitz moved up from three years of first-team, all-star honors to Player of the Year status.
Holy Cross won the division title with three repeat all-stars leading the way for Al Callejas, who repeated as Coach of the Year in his final season before retiring.
Nemitz became Mid Valley’s all-time leading scorer during a senior season in which he averaged 17.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.5 blocked shots, leading the team in everything except rebounds. He shot 44 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the line.
Repeat first-teamers Hayden Hosie and Gabe Gonzales helped Holy Cross finish one game ahead of Mid Valley in the final standings. Hosie was also a second-team, all-star two years ago as a sophomore.
Joey Macciocco from third-place Old Forge and Frankie Antoniacci from fourth-place Riverside are the other repeat, first-team, all-stars.
Mid Valley’s Ricky Vinansky moves up from the second team to the first team.
Callejas led Holy Cross back to the top of the division in a season that also produced a District 2 championship and Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state semifinal berth in Class 2A.
Logan Tierney from Holy Cross and Jaymire Allen from Carbondale each made the second team for the second straight season.
