Old Forge hammers Carbondale

Old Forge scored 21 points in the second quarter and held Carbondale scoreless into the final four minutes Friday night while staying undefeated in a 41-10, road victory in the non-league meeting between Lackawanna Football Conference teams.

Hezekiah Deitz scored the first two touchdowns, Josh Spindler added two later and James Sobol threw for two scores as the Blue Devils improved to 3-0.

Carbondale fell to 1-2.

Deitz ran 3 yards for the only touchdown of the first quarter, then returned an interception 10 yards for a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Spindler ran 31 yards for the next score with 3:38 left in the half, then the Blue Devils recovered a short kickoff to give them time to stretch the lead to 27-0 before the break.

Sobol threw a 19-yard touchdown to Holzman to make him 10-for-12 for 122 yards in the first half, then added a 55-yard touchdown to Ethan Tallo in the second quarter.

Vinny DePalma ran for 36 yards in the first half for Carbondale, but he accounted for all but one yard of the Carbondale total offense to that point.

Spindler’s 2-yard run midway through the fourth quarter made it 41-0 and invoked the Mercy Rule.

Old Forge temporarily preserved its shutout with a fumble recovery at the 1.

The Blue Devils were then tackled in the backfield for a safety.

Carbondale took advantage of the field position from the free kick to add a late touchdown when Darryl Bennett threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Orta.
