Howanitz, Hilling lead VV to win

Adam Howanitz and Connor Hilling each ran for two touchdowns while rushing for more than 100 yards Friday night to lead Valley View to a decisive, 34-14 victory over host Dallas in a game between teams that opened the season ranked in the Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Power Rankings on

Howanitz, a junior quarterback, carried 14 times for 136 yards. Hilling, another junior, picked up 130 yards on 19 carries.

Valley View opened the season ranked fourth among Big Schools in the Super Six. Dallas, a District 2 Class 4A finalist last season when Valley View fell short of those same playoffs, was sixth.

With its veteran offensive line establishing dominance, Valley View took the lead in the second quarter and pulled away in the fourth on a long night at Dallas.

The start of the game was delayed by lightning and it was interrupted twice for more weather delays.

The Cougars struck first on a 2-yard Hilling touchdown just 3:40 into the game.

Dallas took a 7-6 lead after one quarter on an 11-yard run by Taylor Bolesta.

Valley View went ahead to stay on a 12-yard run by Howanitz less than two minutes into the second quarter.

Dante Randle added to the lead on a 2-yard run with 1:49 left in the half.

Quarterback Jackson Wydra scored midway through the third quarter to pull Dallas within 19-14.

Howanitz scored on a 3-yard run and added the two-pointer with 10:24 left, then Hilling ran 19 yards for the final score with 5:42 to play.
