Blue Devils overwhelm Sabers

Old Forge covered 197 yards on 3 second-quarter scoring plays Friday night on the way to a 48-0, Lackawanna Football Conference Division 4 rout of host Susquehanna.

The Blue Devils spoiled the Sabers’ annual home night game under portable lights by opening a 36-0 lead at halftime.

Old Forge turned 13 offensive plays into 328 yards in the first half. They ran 6 times for 191 yards while quarterback James Sobol was going 5-for-7 for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Hezekiah Deitz got it started on a 38-yard touchdown run and Josh Spindler took a 16-yard pass from Sobol for a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

Casey Holzman ran 77 yards, Andrew Bartnikowski took a Sobol pass 70 yards and Spindler ran 50 yards for second-quarter touchdowns.

Bartnikowski also ran for a two-point conversion in the first quarter and passed to Mario Samony for another in the second quarter.

John Greenfield ran for a third-quarter touchdown and Spindler, who scored on both his runs and on his only catch, went 87 yards for the final touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Old Forge improved to 3-0 in the division and 8-0 overall heading into its regular-season finale at Lackawanna Trail to decide the Division 4 title.

Susquehanna is 2-2 and 2-7.
