District 2 Honor Roll

The top performances in District 2 sports from the week of Sept. 27-Oct. 3

Mid Valley’s Devin Ayala

Devin Ayala, Mid Valley football 

Ayala carried 33 times for 336 yards and 3 touchdowns while scoring all of Mid Valley’s points in a 24-21 victory over Riverside. Ayala went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season with his third straight game of at least 200 yards rushing. He also caught a pass for 14 yards and the other Mid Valley touchdown.

North Pocono’s Caleb Kenyon

Caleb Kenyon, North Pocono boys cross country

Kenyon finished first in a six-team Lackawanna League cluster meet as North Pocono beat all five opponents, including winning a battle of unbeatens with Abington Heights. He then took second in a field of 287 in the prestigious Paul Short Run at Lehigh University, finishing in 15:23 for the third-fastest time in the state at 3.1 miles to that point in the season.

Logan Paczewski, Dallas boys golf

Paczewski played the back nine in 5-under-par with an eagle, three birdies and five pars while leading Dallas from 13 strokes behind to beat North Pocono by a stroke for the District 2 Class 3A boys team title. Paczewski finished with the day’s best round with a 5-under-par, 67 at Elmhurst Country Club.

North Pocono’s Gwendolyn Powell

Gwendolyn Powell, North Pocono girls golf and cross country

Powell shot a 2-under-par, 70 at Elkview Country Club for the lowest score by 11 shots during the District 2 Girls Golf Team Championships. Powell, a sophomore who has since added her second district individual title, set a school record and a new personal best with the round while leading the Lady Trojans to a third-place finish in Class 3A. Four days later, competing in cross country, she was the team’s third-best finisher at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University.

Morgan Solano, Dallas girls soccer

Solano saved all 21 shots that she faced as Dallas won three shutouts over quality opponents during the week. The wins were needed in low-scoring battles in important Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 wins over Berwick, 1-0, and Wilkes-Barre Area, 2-0. The shutouts came against teams with a combined record of 20-7-1.
