Key Contributors

Below the headlines there are many efforts that contribute to team success. NEPA Sports Nation takes a weekly look at some of those contributions. Here are the Key Contributors from the week of Oct. 11-17:

RAIMON ABREU, Hazleton Area football

The 5-foot-10, 193-pound senior defensive end made 10 tackles in a come-from-behind, 29-10 victory over Wilkes-Barre Area for first place in the Wyoming Valley Conference Class 6A/5A Division. Abreu was the leading tackler on a defense that shut out the Wolfpack in the second half.

MAKAYLA BRESLIN, Crestwood girls volleyball

The senior libero is the team leader in digs on the season and came up with 10 to help Crestwood recover from having its eight-match winning streak broken and beat traditional power Holy Redeemer. Breslin had 22 digs, 13 service points, 3 kills, 2 aces and 2 assists during a week in which the Lady Comets went against three of the WVC’s best teams.

MILES EDWARDS, Lackawanna Trail football

Edwards is usually a two-way end, but he moved to offensive tackle with the Lions needing to replace all-state lineman R.J. Schirg for their game against Dunmore. Edwards kept the ball-control Lackawanna Trail offense moving as a tackle and contributed six tackles from his defensive end position in the 21-7 win.

MORGAN JANESKI, Wyoming Area field hockey

Janeski is the center back and leader of a defensive unit on a team that extended its shutout streak to nine games during 1-0, 2-0 and 3-0 victories.

MARGARET MIHALICK, Wyoming Seminary girls tennis

Mihalick, a returning singles player from Wyoming Seminary’s 2020 Wyoming Valley Conference championship squad, was moved to doubles with the early-season emergence of freshman Ilana Rosenthal and international student Victoria Martinez. Mihalick joined with Dominica Delayo to form a powerful number-one doubles team, one that lost just three games in four sets while unbeaten Wyoming Seminary was adding the District 2 Class 2A title to its WVC championship with semifinal and championship wins at Kirby Park.

ADRIANA PACEWICZ, Dunmore girls volleyball

Pacewicz had 35 assists during a pair of Dunmore sweeps in Lackawanna League Division 1 matches. She can also finish when needed, adding seven kills during the week.
