Key Contributors

Below the headlines there are many efforts that contribute to team success. NEPA Sports Nation takes a weekly look at some of those contributions. Here are the Key Contributors from the week of Nov. 8-14:

HARLEM COOK, Delaware Valley football

Cook had the first and last of Delaware Valley’s four interceptions in a 35-20 win over Hazleton Area in the District 2 Class 6A football championship game. He also blocked an extra point, which twice meant the Warriors had a one-point lead at a point when the game would have otherwise been tied. Cook also caught 3 passes for 34 yards and returned a kickoff 15 yards.

HUNTER PATTERSON, Lackawanna Trail football

Patterson made the third-down tackle and was part of the fourth-down tackle when Lackawanna Trail made a goal-line stand at its 1 late in the third quarter of a 14-10 victory over Dunmore in the District 2 Class 2A championship game. After the Lions moved ahead with a 99-yard scoring drive, Patterson twice ran for first downs to help them kill the remaining time off the clock in their next possession. As fullback, Patterson carried 13 times for 52 yards and caught a 4-yard touchdown pass.

DANTE RANDLE, Valley View football

Randle had six tackles, including a sack and another tackle for a loss, and four assists to lead the defense in a 21-0 shutout of Berwick in the District 2 Class 4A semifinals. He also carried 4 times for 26 yards and, as fullback, often served as the lead blocker as teammate Connor Hilling rushed for 133 yards.

CYLLEL ROSE, Old Forge football

Rose, a two-way lineman, was prominent in Old Forge outrushing Belmont Charter, 320-35, during a 55-14 victory in the District 1-2-12 Class A Subregional championship game. Rose had three tackles, two of which went for losses.

EVA SZURA, Holy Redeemer girls volleyball

Szura gave Holy Redeemer a second hitting option throughout the season and also contributed in other ways with a versatile game. He was second on the Lady Royals in kills and first in digs during the state tournament. She had seven kills, seven digs and two blocks in a first-round sweep at Wyalusing Valley, then six kills, four digs and three service points in the season-ending loss to Allentown Central Catholic.

JONAH YURKANIN, North Pocono boys soccer

Yurkanin’s play-making skills allowed him to set school records for season and career assists earlier this season. Yurkanin had two assists in a 4-1 victory over Danville, the first state tournament win in program history, then scored a goal in the season-ending, 4-3 loss to Archbishop Wood.
